The Dragon

"Why do you want this?"

Smoke flared from his nostrils.
She could feel his heat from where she stood,
Heart hammering,
Knees weak,
His basso profundo reverberating in her stomach.

His voice had the timbre and exactness of gentility,
but he made no play to suggest it also meant gentleness.

The display of his wealth throughout the chamber was obvious.
Princes had shown her such wealth, and said they would buy her
fancies, frivolities, lands and servants and every shiny thing.
He did not offer her gifts.

The power in his body was unquestionable.
Knights had made display of such power, and said they would fight
her battles, protect her person, defend her honor, leave no slight unavenged.
His unspoken promise was that his power would be used on, not for, her.

"Why do you want this?"

And she approached, trembling.
Unable to retreat, caught in the logic of a dream,
betrayed by her own limbs.

"Come no closer. You know what must happen."

And she did.
And still she came closer,
a silhouette in his gaudy light,
small and frail and without recourse.

He did not even move as he fell upon her.
Rent apart her clothing, bared her, put her body on shameful display.
His teeth on her neck, holding her like a cat.
Claws gouging into her breasts.

He took her from behind, like an animal.
His weight pressing her down, submissive, subservient.
His strength pushing into her, rending, punishing,
Plunging into her where she was soft, yielding, easy to hurt.

Harder, harder, making her cry, making her scream;
Trying to destroy her body with his own.
No mercy, no tenderness, and still his voice, hot in her ears:

"Why? Why? Why do you want this?"
Hoarse with anger, desire, anguish.

And as he filled her, plundered her,
As his heat shoved her down,
As his lust fountained inside of her, burning,
Not even sure he could hear her plaintive whisper:

"It is not what I want."

Choking, sobbing, aching flesh struggling to draw breath beneath him.

"It is what I need."

Poor thing. She could probably use a therapist.

What a beautiful poem. Beautifully written, beautiful choice of words, beautiful imagery... even if the subject itself isn't technically "beautiful". I absolutely loved it. Well done!
The wolf said, "You know, my dear, it isn't safe for a little girl to walk through these woods alone."

Thanks, [member=10]EssenceofRed[/member] , [member=1556]randomgirl[/member] . I'm glad it met with your approval. I haven't worked in poetry in a long time, but I saw a play last week which made me want to try.
