Title: Report Bugs or Outages Here

Report trouble with our site so we can troubleshoot and report problems to our host. Your contributions can help us run more smoothly!

[member=5]RayPistonprowl[/member]  bugs me the way he never closes his bathrobe, but always opens his legs trying to show off his outage.

Oh, wait...  :uhoh:

[member=1]Addie[/member] Shoutbox notification thingy message that appears up top is not sticking. It keeps reverting to 'undefined' or sommat. I reinstalled without destroying tables, then reinstalled with new tables, problem persists. :(

I've reinstalled Global Headers & Footers mod so the announcement is still on the page. I don't like where it appears though, currently after linktree. I'd prefer it showed up before the Shoutbox. Any way to modify that, Addie?

[member=5]RayPistonprowl[/member] , it works fine for me. Maybe it's specific to IE. All the same, I'm not happy with the SB announcement thing anyway because it's very limited on space. I'd rather use the Headers/Footers mod. I'll try to move the other mod to above the Shoutbox so it appears on all pages.

And it's working now. If you changed something, fab. If you didn't, then I've no clue why it's suddenly working.

about a half hour ago the shoutbox seemed to be hiccupping. It's like my posts weren't sticking.

As well round the same time I had multiple windows open so perhaps that had something to do with it but my Messages would not clear, even after I read them. It's like the site's been stuck in a bizarre time warp. :uhoh:

The site seems to be working fine for me in Firefox. Anyone else? Anyone? :troll:
Sorry, I saw another brutal2 riff in the Women's Group. Now I can't stop giggling about it. But seriously, is anyone else seeing these problems? If so, in what browser?
Title: Re: Report Bugs or Outages Here

I've sent a ticket to our new host's Help Desk about the reported problems, which include:

1) The Shoutbox posts not sticking in Internet Explorer
2) Some posts not sticking when posted; includes both posts and private messages
3) Some people appearing signed in when in parts of the forum and getting automatically signed out when they visit a particular forum.

I've run the "fix databases" utility in SMF and it found no errors, so I'm thinking our database didn't get corrupted (which is good). Hopefully the host did some server maintenance and that's the source of the error, which they can correct. Everyone let me know if anything else is acting buggy so I can pass it on to the host? You can always email me off-site at the address listed at the very bottom of all pages.

The PM system is buggy, too.

For example, I know that you sent me a PM this morning, and I can see the new message notification, but when I click on "my messages" in order to read it, your PM isn't there. I had to log in to my associated email account to read your message.

ETA: Also, even after I click "logout" from RC, I still appear to be logged in. I am posting this addition to my message after having clicked "logout."

I don't want to panic everyone, but that does sound like a database error. :( I'm hoping to avoid having to revert to a backed up database from a few days ago. Even then, it would be my first time doing a reversion so I would be crossing my fingers and hoping it all goes right.

[member=5]RayPistonprowl[/member] didn't you say you reinstalled something recently? Did you remove any database tables while doing it?

I usually use IE (I know!).

Anyway, I was able to really log out right after I posted the update to my last message.

ETA: I can now read your PM in my messages folder, so that issue seems to have been resolved.

I don't know yet. I uninstalled the Bad Behavior and CloudFlare SMF mods, and those may have fixed your IE errors.

[member=785]Dark.Adapted.Eyes[/member] and [member=890]Cannonball[/member] Are you guys still experiencing the same problems? Cannonball may have to reply off-site because I don't think he can post. :/

Well, that's positive, DAE! Hopefully it was one of those mods, and just uninstalling them has fixed the problem! Thank goodness I backed up before installing them though, just in case. ;)

Anyone still having problems:
1) Clear your browser cache
2) Restart your browser.

You may see stuff that you already read showing as unread for a while, or the other way around, since I cleared the site's cache. That should correct itself as the site's cache fills up again.

[member=890]Cannonball[/member] In the Shoutbox I asked you:
Addie [24|Jun 11:37 AM]:   Cannonball, are you saying that the site is refusing to mark stuff read after you have repeatedly told it to mark it read? If so, that still sounds like a database problem... :-?

Hi [member=1]Addie[/member]. It's definitely, as I had initially suspected, a content problem. Is there a character limit for wall posts?
Title: Re: Report Bugs or Outages Here
Post by: Addie on June 25, 2015, 01:38:52 PM
[member=911]acidredux[/member] I have never tested that. I've input a 50,000 character limit on regular ol' board posts, but I don't know if it applies to walls. Are you trying to paste a very long post there? I'd love to know what content is causing the blank walls.

Did this place blow up again? I couldn't get in for a while, now the game I was running seems to have gone and when I try to check it by looking at my posts from profile actions it throws a wobbler.
Title: Re: Report Bugs or Outages Here

I made no changes to the site, but I began getting reports of 403 errors this afternoon. The host has yet to give me a satisfactory reason for my file permissions to have suddenly changed. I'm very concerned that the stuff [member=11]FrodoKreuger[/member] reports sounds like a database error, or maybe they walked back a change on the servers that has affected our site. Let me know if these problems get corrected or if they persist, and let me know if any other stuff comes up missing. I'll back up the site just in case.

Addie, it does say it's a database error when I check my post list, yes. Still says it in fact so evidently at least part of my profile/ID is fooked like a two-bit whore meeting RapeyRay...

[member=1]Addie[/member] I checked Frodo's complaint and it's giving me the same result :

Quote
Database Error

Can't find record in 'smf_topics'
File: /home/rapecage/public_html/forum/Sources/Profile-View.php
Line: 660

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 2.0.10, while your database is at version 2.0.7. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

I trust you'll know what to do with that?  :uhoh:

Personally I'd say what should happen is you get a refund. The server company has caused so many problems over the last few months this place has been up and down like RapeyRay on top of his favorite victims... ;)

LOL. We're on a new host, Frodo. Left old one cos of so much downtime. Host says a cPanel update was likely to blame. They fixed it, but in the meantime our site went down, and Ray no likey that it took us complaining for the site to be repaired. It seems to me that if they do an update, they should check client websites to ensure they're not impacted negatively. I don't know if this is an unreasonable expectation.

A cPanel update? Is that like when the computer service team at the college i went to in the UK decided it would be a hot idea o drill into the casing on the drive for the mainframe? Much hilarity ensued...

Yup. For the record, I went into phpMyAdmin and located the "smf_topics" table and did a "Repair Table" on it. Worked like a charm. Let me know if anyone else is seeing database issues. If you get a specific error message, copy-paste it here so I know precisely which table needs repair.

What's reasonable is to inform all clients before doing a major update so they can prepare in the event their sites go to shit! I got no such email. At least they fixed it promptly when we reported it. Thanks for stepping in, Ray! Remember, I'm just an email away. I have messages regarding this forum flagged so I get to them quickly.

[member=11]FrodoKreuger[/member] , your thread is entirely GONE? :( Was this a new thread or an old one with a bunch of posts? I want to know if we lost data altogether over the course of a day, or if there's another database error that I can maybe repair. Dangit!

Also got this today:

I hate to add to your workload but I'm having a site issue.  I'm on IE and when I click to go to a different page, there is a flash of bright light before the next page appears. This happens when I'm signed in and when I'm not signed in.  Has anyone else had this issue?

Anyone else?

Addie, it was fairly new but not absolutely new. I'd run the game (Sequences of Six) for a few rounds already with points gathered by various people. I don't see it in the games section, on my post list or through a search. The last post was probably a week or so back, maybe a bit less.

I'm searching our database in phpadmin and it appears that your thread is simply gone! I've run a repair on the Games board and it still didn't show up. I'm going to do some maintenance here that may disrupt the board slightly for a while, and see if that doesn't recover anything else that's missing.

UPDATE: Aaaaaaaand I found it. http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php/topic,1053.msg61070.html#msg61070
Everything should be recovered now.

If you don't see yourself in the "Users Online" section at the bottom of the page, then log out and log back in again. This should correct that error. You may not be able to post in the Shoutbox until you're logged in correctly and the system recognizes you.

My guess is that was Surrender2U during that time when her profile wasn't linking up correctly. S2U mentions giving people in the thread faps but her name doesn't appear in the fap sections.

As per Addie's info request:

I'm running iOS 8.4 on an iPhone 5, accessing the site through Chrome browser. When someone 'mentions' me I get the number after 'profile' in the menu bar at the top of the screen as I'm supposed to. Clicking on 'profile' brings up the menu:

Summary
Account Settings
Forum Profile
Mentions

However then the menu almost immediately disappears and the page changes to my profile page, without giving me time to click any of the menu options. I have to be clicking 'mentions' firmly almost as soon as the word appears, in order to access my mentions.  Normally takes about five or ten attempts.

It's not a big issue, I don't get a lot of mentions normally. Just reporting as asked!

What the fuck is going on in here??

Seriously, someone tell me what menu options you were clicking through so I can figure out what you guys are talking about. You should get a popup that tells you when you have received PMs, and to get to Mentions you can either click:
1) Profile > Mentions
or
2) Profile > Profile Info > Mentions

Under the first option, under "Profile" you should see
  • Summary
  • Account Settings
  • Forum Profile
  • Mentions
So are you saying that you can't scroll down any farther than "Forum Profile" or that "Mentions" pops up too briefly to be clicked on? Can you tell me WHEN that started happening?

On the kindle it was a matter of clicking on mentions fast before the window disappeared. With the iPad using safari if I hit the profile button it would just take me to my profile, the selection window doesn't even appear. It does work in dolphin browser, however.

Now if someone can tell me how to make the damned thing "view image" on websites so that I can get a url to use with Img tags, I'd be happy as hell. I had to use my kindle to post a picture in the chill out lounge earlier. So far ipad is not impressing me.

Nope, menu placement is fine. The problem boils down to a problem with Chrome's display on iPhones, and Chrome needs to fix it. In the meantime I suggest you people on mobile devices use a different browser like Dolphin.

Btw in my emulator I was able to press and slide my finger down on the top-level menu just enough to reach the drop-down menu beneath, and the drop-down would then stay on-screen so I could press whatever selection I wanted. You guys on iPhones will have to tell me if that works for you.

My guess is our server glitched during those times so the information didn't write correctly to the database. That's all I got! If you can recreate the problem dependably then I can have a good look into it, otherwise we just have to accept that occasionally our wall messages will get munched on. I've noticed that happens in the Shoutbox too.

This is more of a question (and a cry inquiry for help) than a report. Ray was super awesome and helped me set up links to my stories on my profile page last month or so. Now that I added one more story for the story contest, I wanted to add it to the list. I went into ultimate profile and basically copied what he did for the others, except I used Lost Innocence for the title and its specific url. Now all of the links work EXCEPT the one I did. To my eye, it doesn't look any different than the others. I have no idea what I did wrong. Help!

Ok. Every time I try to post, I get this shit right here:

Quote
The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

And then I have to click "try again" like 20, or 30 times in a row. This happens every single time I refresh, or reply, or click on a new topic, or anything. As you might imagine, this sucks.

My various information:

Firefox 40.0
on Windows 7

So, yeah. Brace yourself just in case I post this 50 times in a row, I don't know what's going to happen when I click 'post'. But it's probably gonna suck.

Sorry for the aggravation you're suffering there, [member=805]Vinum_Sabbathi[/member] . :( You can always bypass this forum and email [member=1]Addie[/member] directly at the address at the bottom of this page. Fair warning: this will reveal your email address to her. She'll never reveal anyone's identity here but there's your fair warning.

Here's all I've got so far: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1024256
That sounds like it's on the right track anyway, since you've mentioned the problem being intermittent. You're the only person reporting anything like this even though many of us use Firefox though, so I suspect something is bizarre with how you're connecting to the Internet or sommat. You might also tell Addie if this is the only site you're having this specific problem with.

Edit : Vinum confirmed it's just this site, Addie!

This sounds more like a bug that was in a Firefox release a few years ago that conflicted heavily with some antivirus software at the time. This was back in like 2008 and it's been present in every Firefox release since, so they're apparently not planning to fix it.

[member=805]Vinum_Sabbathi[/member] I'll research this and try to send you a forum email soon (so it includes a copy in the body of the message and you can just read it over your email). If you can read this, you might let me know what antivirus program you're currently using as well as any you've ever had installed on that machine, since many complaints about this bug occurred when antivirus software didn't uninstall completely.

Adam, do you by any chance use password autofill software? I only ask because that might help trace the error.

This appears to be ok now, sorry... I wasn't using anything like that to the best of my knowledge - I used Private Browsing on Safari for iPhone so I have assumed that cookies, state, passwords etc weren't being carried over from non-private. I couldn't see any "blobs" in the password field - it did occur to me that something like that might be the cause.

Anyway, it's gone away, whether by action at your end :D or otherwise. Thank you! :jester:

I've been getting an error in the chatroom where it just always says "reached maximum allowed number of private chats" or something to that affect, despite the fact that it pops up the moment I enter the room and have no private chats. FYI - Since last night, I noticed the shoutbox only shows the upper half of the conversation, and the bottom half is blank. In the past, people told me that happens when people have longish, private conversations in the shout box. BUT last night Red Right Hand, Punpun, Pinkwarkitten, and I were posting intermittently. The second to last time I went to the front page of the sight, our conversation was just sitting there, and the last time, only half of it. It had just been there before. Now this morning only the top half is showing again... Unless it's coincidental and they really were having a private conversation before posting.

Anybody else see that? Sometimes if your connexion is slow the Shoutbox won't load completely. And as you said, if a couple of people are 'whispering' in the Shoutbox then it will eventually show a blank section where they were posting to each other. I want to determine if this is really a bug or if it's a slow connexion issue or just whispering going on.

The time on the shoutbox and chatroom are 6 hours ahead. When I go to the profile page to fix it (like I did last time), it says the default time is only 1 hour off. Then no matter if I put -1 or -6, the times stay the same. I had it right before. Last night was daylight savings and I'm assuming it has something to do with that. FYI. While the times don't matter all that much, it would be nice to know if someone is in the shoutbox right this moment as I'm looking at it, or if the last message was posted four hours ago. Thanks and goodluck!

EDIT: Nevermind. Ray just fixed it.

EDIT 2: Shoutbox is fixed. Chatroom is not.

Sorry about the chat bugs. PHP Free Chat is such a pain in the butt. :/ I'm still looking to replace it.

I'm looking at moving over to something with better features. I think I can convince [member=5]RayPistonprowl[/member] to pay the €75 for BlaB!: http://hot-things.net/blab-ajax-php-chat
(Ray, I'm buried here for a few weeks so I'll let you know when I'm ready to test-drive it.)

They can help with integration with SMF, which I totally need. It has no Flash or Java, which is good because those can be security risks from what I understand. I'll disable the geolocation crap and a few other features that won't be appropriate here.

There's a weird thing going on with my IPhone6 with the Profile link. Weird because once about three weeks ago it actually work but before and since, it doesn't.

Here's the deal. When I get a mention for instance, the Profile link correctly registers a (1) alongside it. However when I click on the link on my phone, it takes me to my profile, not the drop down menu.

Works fine on my laptop and IPad.

No biggie but I thought I'd mention it. And like I said, the weird thing it worked just that once!!
Title: Re: Report Bugs or Outages Here

I have found that when it takes me to my profile page, which it does all the time, I hit the back button and when the previous screen shows up, so does the drop down menu. Try that. Or maybe try switching browsers. Dolphin browser worked to fix that on my iPad.

Did you log on with your tablet or cell phone recently? There is currently a glitch showing up in some OS updates that causes the login from the main page not to work, forcing you to log in from the dedicated page which then works correctly. But that page also has a check box that toggles your visibility on and off, so you have to make sure the box is properly checked before logging in. You can always change your visibility once you're logged in.

Some members have been complaining that when they go into chat, their online user box is empty. I've noticed that directly to the left of the Bold icon below the chatroom there is a "Hide Online User Box" icon. I would suggest clicking this to see if maybe you accidentally clicked it and turned off your online user box. If this doesn't work, closing your browser, re-opening it and then signing back in to RC and then going back into chat seems to resolve it.

Damn, I haven't got a way of seeing anything past the first 12 or wot have you of your buddies so I can't confirm if she's on your list or not. I seem to recall someone else complaining that the buddies feature was bolloxed but I don't think we haven't confirmed if there was operator error there first.

[member=47]Maoiri[/member] Go to Profile > Buddies/Ignore List > Edit Buddies

and confirm if you see [member=1250]KalistaSadi[/member] on your list or if she's at the very bottom still waiting to be confirmed? If you sent the request to her then she needs to do the above and confirm you before you'll show on each other's buddy lists.

i can't speak for mia and belle, but DarkFantasies has other buddies on her list so I'm sure she knows how to accept buddy requests. but it's possible she requested buddyhood of them, so I imagine she'd have to let us know.

[member=1337]DarkFantasies[/member] I just wrote up a wee tutorial on Buddies. You and the person you're trying to buddy can troubleshoot to ensure you've taken the proper steps:
http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php/topic,1550.msg89171.html#msg89171

If you've taken the proper steps and the Buddies List still won't show you as buddies, report back so we can troubleshoot our end!

Hiya,

Thank you for your help and sorry for being a pain!

I have just looked in my buddies list and when I click on 'Edit Buddies' the buddies I have added appear but they are in the 'Unapproved Buddies' list? I don't know if this is the problem? I did click the button to add them as they were requests made to me, sorry, really not sure?

[member=78]Surrender2U[/member] What device are you using? What browser?

You can set your status to "hidden" on your Profile > Account Settings > Untick "Show others my online status"

Then when you Log In make sure the correct box is ticked so you don't accidentally undo that.

That's exactly what it is. The box is always checked. I guess this is pretty new? I've never had to do that before.

I'm on Firefox on my Macbook.

[member=1]Addie[/member] put in the new default that you can't just quick log-in and it it now takes you to the long form. This was to help mobile users who were getting borked (or maybe it was certain browsers?) when trying to log on.

The Long Form supersedes  the profile preference and so, yes, you must check the box each entry to be hidden that session.

I didn't notice anything funny, BUT my mention alert has been pretty spotty for the last 24 hours or so. Of the four mentions I got today, I was only alerted for one of them. I'm pretty certain I didn't get all of the mention alerts yesterday, either - unless today has been a really long day and I'm just thinking about earlier today. Anyway, I know for sure that I missed the two you tagged in the last hour, and I swear there was at least one more, if not two.

For whatever it's worth, I just got this last one. BUT twice now when I typed the @ plus your name, your name didn't show up unless I added a space before the @. That's why there's a space on that line before your name on this message and the last one. You know how sometimes one can type a full name and it won't pop up for a person to click on? Maybe there's a correlation there.

[member=1]Addie[/member]

TEST. Did you get this?

I also noticed that the name popped right up if it didn't come after a quote.

That seems to be a quirk of using Rich Text mode. If you use plain text mode it works fine.

This button to the top right above the composition window will toggle you back and forth between the two modes: (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/Themes/coalblack/images/bbc/toggle.gif)

[member=1]Addie[/member] -

1. Error log shows a lot of activity from 205.196.16.16 but that resolves to OUR HOST. In addition it is showing as the IP of a whole bunch of us when that can't be right. It even shows as the same IP of some banned entities.

2. Where have our search spiders gone? I have a feeling the two are related. Perhaps they're not showing as spiders now cos they're showing as 205.196.16.16 so they're showing as legit users instead of spiders?

Something is wrong. I haven't changed anything so I don't know what to attribute this to.

For whatever it's worth, I just realized I'm suddenly not getting email notifications when someone private messages me. The number does show up next to My Messages, though, so it's not totally the end of the world. :P

UPDATE - I'm also not getting the email notifications of when my RP partner posts. Today is the first day that it hasn't worked.

Our host appears to have fixed the problem. IPs that were recorded during that brief period are stuck in the database on the bad IP until those people next log in, then they should log correctly again. In addition, our spiders (eep!) are back! Please let me know if any of your previously reported problems persist.

That could be me. I changed my password back in February and now I have trouble getting in. Sometimes it's as if my computer only likes the left shift key opposed to the right shift or the CAPS key. (Is that even possible?) I figured out if I log out and pretend I don't know what I'm doing, my computer will take over and put in the password that works. I can't, however, change and save something in account settings. It basically tells me I don't know my own password and that I'm a dumbass. Meanwhile, I think my phone works fine. *shrugs* That said, I've stayed invisible and remained logged in for at least a week or two (to avoid the issue), so any new entries would not be me.

It sounds like you have a password saver or password locker auto filling in your passwords? I wonder if this site is having trouble with a popular password saver. :-?

I've noticed that when we post Profile pictures to our walls (not avatars) animated gifs tend to stop being animated. Any idea why that is and can it be fixed? As well they tend to blow the pics up huge when they start out small. can that be overridden?

I haven't figured out the animation problem. That seems to be encoded in the Ultimate Profile albums so that photos are forced to be static when they're uploaded. They're still gifs, but the animation is stripped out. I'll have to get back to that.

I did change the size of uploads. I had the upper limits of them set to 640px and that was forcing even tiny avatar sized images to show up as 640px minimum. I just removed that limit.

For the record, you change it by going to:
Admin > Configuration > Modification Settings > Ultimate Profile > under "Width of uploaded pictures (in px)" ensure it says "0".

Mentioned in the Shoutbox (adding here just in case it disappears before it's seen and to add more detail), but B went to vote for the Story Contest on his phone, and was not able to use the link on the main page to get to the voting thread, we had to go the traditional route...... (Stories > RapeCage Story Contest > poll thread)..... because the link dumped him back to the main page..... All the links to the stories within that thread dumped back to the main page as well :( not sure if this is just a glitch with his phone browser (he uses Chrome on an Android phone (LG Optimus L70, so an older(ish) phone.... running Android 4.4.2 KitKat)) or if it's something more widespread....

That's how my former Daddy ended up creating a profile on RC six months ago. When he couldn't get on, he assumed he had to be a member in order to vote. When he told me this later, I assumed he was just technologically challenged. I guess maybe he really did have trouble. :))

Why do I keep getting the word "save" at the bottom center of my posts? I often hop back on and delete it quickly, but I don't always catch it. Case in point. (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php/topic,2050.msg111922.html#msg111922)

This is what it says:

[ center] [color=rgb ( 255, 255, 255)] Save[/ color] [/ center]

I KNOW I'm not typing it. So how do I make it stop?[/color]

[member=10]EssenceofRed[/member] What device are you using, and what browser? It looks like a copy-paste mistake.

As for why the color tags are showing up, that seems to happen in some browsers when you copy-paste from another source, or when you toggle back and forth between Rich Text Mode and Plain Text Mode using this button (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/Themes/coalblack/images/bbc/toggle.gif). If you compose in Plain Text Mode then you eliminate the problem. It's a glitch in SMF that hasn't been fixed.

To change it so you have "Plain Text Mode" as the default, go to:
Profile > Look and Layout > Uncheck "Show WYSIWYG editor on post page by default."

I'm on a Macbook Pro. I'm working on my bibliography right now, and when I went in and deleted the word "key", I pressed post, nothing else, and "save" appeared at the bottom again. It's weird. (And a little annoying.) I'm going to go check my default right now. That suggestion seems like a good idea.

I did just run through the links and they worked for me signed in and not signed in on Desktop Iron Browser (Chromium based) and also worked as a guest on Mobile Edge on my phone...

Silk is reporting she had this error yesterday on Iron (Desktop) as a guest...

That's how my former Daddy ended up creating a profile on RC six months ago. When he couldn't get on, he assumed he had to be a member in order to vote. When he told me this later, I assumed he was just technologically challenged. I guess maybe he really did have trouble. :))

Bad cookies. That's the only difference between Silk's machine and mine. Same browser and version, same OS and version, same actual laptop model, connected to the same WiFi.

This issue came up again for her yesterday. She was not logged in. Any link clicked took her back to the main page.

I logged out and links worked as they should.

I had Silk log in and log out (fetching fresh cookies) and then it worked for her.

Thanks for all that feedback. Something has been wrong with SMF's cookies for a while now, but the million-and-one posts I've read about why they're not working properly haven't given me a definitive answer yet. It's possible I can change the cookie name, which will require everyone to log out/in again in order to make the site work, and we can see if they begin working properly. I suspect a change between the last SMF version and this one may be to blame, because our error logs didn't show this error until we upgraded.

Yes, I suspect that's part of the problem. I use multiple browsers for testing this site, and some use different passwords (Hodor, testuser), and I've noticed that it causes confusion with the cookies.

I may have just discovered a bug that is causing this problem. I was looking through our error log and saw a Guest tried to access a few pages, but when I clicked their links, they brought me back to the front page. So I looked at the link again, and noticed it was adding a ? after php, which causes the link not to work and it bumps you back to the main page. I'm not sure if it's a bug or a feature that was intended to keep Guests from being able to click certain kinds of links. I'll have to research this more.

Actually just caught it again.

todays best example -->

 h ttp://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php ((?PHPSESSID=g1ffqp4ilotgq37ct3v0b7g854&)) /topic,2206.0.html

((brackets & spaces added by me))

So this  (( ?etc. )) is the code that is being consistently "added" to the links, by whatever the bug it be...

what a PHP SessID is I am still looking up,  but "Session ID" came to mind immediately ??

And she sent the following note back:

So I guess the issue is actually more with my story links.... Still, any ideas?

[member=10]EssenceofRed[/member]  Two posts above yours Addie addresses this. It's a bug that borks the referring link by adding a "?" which makes it a query and not a hotlink.

I don't know when the poor gal will have time to solve that one. It's above my pay grade.

I have found out that if you have your friend clear her cache and cookies it may resolve the issue until the new cookie expires in 1200 minutes (50 days).

So does that mean that even though we are hoping visitors will check out our bibliographies so they have links to everything at their fingertips, it actually won't work because it will always reroute to the forum index? That's a major bummer. It almost deceives the purpose of having all of these lists and links if it doesn't actually take people to where they want to go. :(

Title: Re: Report Bugs or Outages Here

Yes and no.  It is if I'm using Chrome, but it is limited to just not showing the options to use.  I can still see smileys in messages and I can see the options for the shoutbox and it seems to be limited to this site as I checked on another forum I use and everything came up fine.  I also noticed the shoutbox messages don't seem to be loading with Chrome.  I just opened the site in IE to check if the browser made a difference and it does because everything looks fine with IE.

I'm wondering if running the Chrome malware removal program caused the issue since it also caused me to have to manually sign in to all my sites again.

I'm running Chrome on a laptop and not having any problem, [member=774]pantherx[/member] . It sounds like your Chrome isn't loading images from our site. Have you tried doing a hard refresh on our site? On Mac it's 'Shift' + 'Reload'. On PC it's 'CTRL' + 'F5'. That should force your computer to reload all the images that it's cached incorrectly. And the Chrome malware removal programme could be responsible, yeah.

[member=1]Addie[/member] [member=708]Red Right Hand[/member] [member=6]Ingenue[/member] any ideas on this one?

and the only thing to see is a white wall, so no rc site to see, no loading, no error code.

Since last Friday I can't make pic links like usually, f.e. to link my welcome picture for the newbes or the pic links on my profile...
I'm always using the generall code "[ img] browseradress of the pic [/ img]" and now it's not working anymore.
I saved my link pics on Pinterest (private album) - I rechecked the URL.
I uploaded the pics on my RC-profile (pictures album) and tried it again to link my "Welcome" pic to a wall - and it doesn't work too *sigh*
Also the pic links on my profile boxes don't work anymore.
The funny thing is, I can still link the same pics in chatroom and it's working.
So what the hell am I doing wrong?

P.S. My browser is Firefox

ok  :facepalm2: I could figure it out on my own ....
My usual code I used looked like this:
"[ img]
URL of PIC
[ / img]"

now I changed it into:
"[ img] URL of PIC [ / img]"

so no more using of the "enter" key...
I have no idea why it's not working anymore with using the enter key
but anyway :lollipop:

[member=5]RayPistonprowl[/member] The Bookmarks mod may need to be permanently uninstalled. It's no longer being updated and isn't compatible with at least the RemoveTopic.php and Subs.php files and the developer removed all the parse instructions so I can't manually insert the code anymore. Just watch to see that bookmarks delete correctly. If they don't, remove.

ETA: I tested Bookmarks and they are adding and removing correctly. That could change with any file updates since this is an old mod.

I updated some files today. Are the problems below still ongoing? Ray, we may need to do a full update of SMF and then just ditch whatever mods no longer work correctly. Up to you: if these problems aren't fixed, do you want me to update and remove old mods (it will be a LOT of them!)? Or do you want me to try to roll back to a previous version of SMF that will leave us vulnerable to exploits? I'd rather just update to current stuff to avoid exploitables. You might have noticed more spambots getting through lately, and this could be why. I will have to redo all my customized stuff, which will be huge, or we can just give up on the customizations.

I'm going to guess the server is handing out some corrupted cookies. I may change the cookie. All of you who are having problems will need to clear cache/cookies to ensure you start using the new cookie. This will make everyone's login a bit batty for a while, but we'll see if it helps.

This isn't really a complaint regarding bugs or outages but it is a question. Why is it so often that when the "Latest Member" has signed up it will show on their profile that they have a referral? How is that even possible since they are the most recent member? I've noticed that a high percentage of them end up being spammers but I've also noticed some aren't. Is that some sort of bug?

[member=1532]Smirkin[/member] Did you clear the cache and cookies of the browsers you're using before testing? I suspect the old RC cookie is no good so you need to clear cache, restart browser, and log in here again to obtain the new one, then you should begin seeing everything you should.

If that doesn't work then we need more details so we can try to recreate the problem and reverse engineer a fix. (Device, browser, steps to recreate, etc.)

I've noticed there have been spammers creating accounts and sending out spam to members. Is there anything on the horizon to prevent this or should we expect more of these kinds of things happening?

I spend a good half of my time here just combatting all the spam. [member=1]Addie[/member] has been trying to update the forum hoping some vulnerabilities have been patched, but there appears to be a sharp upswing in Eastern European spammers at the moment so I think some will probably continue to get through.

I just tried posting in the cooking thread 3+ times. Whenever I hit post, the page goes blank (white) or it asks if I want to resend it. Then when I go to try again, I get a message that I already submitted the post or that I already have pictures posted. If I hit the update button, it, again, says I've already posted... it's strange (and frustrating).

EDIT: And then it just posted 2 of my 3 cooking pictures here. (??) I unchecked them.

Hey, you have desserts following you around! Happy birthday! [member=2479]darkfantasygirl[/member]

We all get logged out from time to time even when we tell it to keep us logged in. For some reason the forum software doesn't recognize your passwords correctly from time to time. I haven't yet figured out the pattern. We may have some stray code from a mod conflicting. This is on my list to figure out when I have a bunch of time to troubleshoot.

Is your problem different from the above?

It seems more likely to be a browser problem. Remembered logins are usually done with cookies on the host computer, and a setting there might be flaking things out. (Does anymore remember those days of yore when Mozilla was a stable platform?) Have you been having other login or related problems for other sites?

Within the last week or so, about every 3-4 reply I post notifies me that I posted something new in the "Show new replies to your posts" thread. For example, after I post something, I hit that link, and it says EssenceofRed posted a new reply... because I did.

Not a huge problem, but just that I noticed something that didn't happen before.

When I log in using IE I get a popup every time the screen refreshes asking if I want to see secure content. If I say yes I can see people in chat1 from the home page, otherwise the room looks empty.

If I log in using Firefox I don't get any options about seeing secure content and the chat room always looks empty, even though there are people in it.

After a bit of experimentation - if I log on using Firefox chat1 looks empty from the home page. It continues to look empty if I refresh the page.

If I go into chat Davy's in it [probably wondering why nobody's joining him!].

If I then log out of chat Davy's now shown in the home page. And he stays there as I navigate around.

When I log out and back in again then I'm back to square one.

[member=2904]jenny[/member] [member=10]EssenceofRed[/member] [member=1]Addie[/member] As I recall, there's a simple line of javascript that shows who's in chat. Since two people noticed it at once I'm wondering if Firefox (you're both on Firefox, right?) did an update that messed with their javascript or perhaps caused a conflict with an add-on?

Try these:

1) Ensure javascript is enabled in Firefox. To enable JavaScript for Mozilla Firefox: Click the Tools drop-down menu and select Options. Check the boxes next to Block pop-up windows, Load images automatically, and Enable JavaScript. Refresh your browser by right-clicking anywhere on the page and selecting Reload, or by using the Reload button in the toolbar.

2) Reset Firefox. Click the menu button and then click help .
From the Help menu choose Troubleshooting Information. ...
Click the Refresh Firefox button in the upper-right corner of the Troubleshooting Information page.
To continue, click Refresh Firefox in the confirmation window that opens.
Firefox will close to refresh itself.

I found this..

Open a new Firefox browser window or tab.
in the Firefox address bar put about:config
    Hit the Enter key.
On the following page, click the button: "I'll be careful, I promise!"
Find the javascript.enabled row under the Preference Name heading.
Double-click anywhere within the javascript.enabled row to toggle the value from "False" to "True".
    Finally, refresh your browser.

... I've tried it. Unfortunately it's made no difference.

Like EssenceofRed says, it's not a showstopper. But it would be a shame if people didn't bother visiting Chat because they thought it was empty.

I think the problem is use of some characters causes the whole post to not show up. It has something to do with utf-8 character set in SMF or sommat? [member=1]Addie[/member] should be able to answer that. The answer unfortunately is to avoid use of those characters. That particular mod needs tweaking and we don't know quite what needs the tweak.

Do you know which characters? Punctuation, as in question marks and periods? Also, [member=13]lysyn[/member] tried to send me a note in all caps a few weeks back, which also turned up blank. Maybe it has something to do with the shift key or the start of a sentence in an uppercase letter?

I know I didn’t use a quote, but I probably used an apostrophe or a comma. I can already see from the first sentence in this post that my phone automatically uses the curly kind. How do I uncurl my apostrophe? [member=6]Ingy[/member]

[member=10]EssenceofRed[/member] [member=1]Addie[/member] I think the solution is to convert our database to utf-8 but we haven't done it cos ... er.... ask Addie. I think we were afraid of cocking it up or sommat. In the meantime the only solution I'm aware of is to avoid the curly quotes. As for how to do that on your mobile, I am not certain. Perhaps change to a different generic font?

Oooo... that's a good idea! I will try that.

And yes, I knew you might not know. That's why I tagged Ingy. :giggle:

The feature is named "smart quotes" or "smart punctuation".  It seems for iOS there is both a system-wide setting and individual settings per app.

There's an option in "System Preferences > Language > Keyboard"

In apps like Safari and Mail it's under "Edit Menu > Substitution"

(I lied, apparently I can find iOS help too) :D

You lost me at System Preferences. I don't see that on my phone. Not under mail or Safari.  :/

The reason I haven't done this is because if I screw it up I'll have to restore the site, and last time I attempted a download of our site our host froze the account because our power leech in doing so set off their alarms. This site is big! I am hoping to have some time to do this and other stuff soon. I need to resolve in particular the html mix we use because it's triggering Chrome and particularly Firefox to see some of our code as a threat. And yes, the curly quotes are the problem there.

Now that is bizarre. :-? [member=1]Addie[/member] got any ideas why this is? Wonder why [member=2342]Conroy Johanns[/member] is the only one affected, or is there anyone else? Wonder if there's a cookie error? :frustrated: Try clearing this site's cookies in your browser and then log in again and see if that sorts it?

I was thinking it might be something about Conroy's change in screen name and/or the space in it. I can't think why it'd be related though.

Correct, I selected "beginning of time." (It logged me out of several sites that I hadn't accessed since before the name change so it seems to have worked.)

The site issued one cookie in that span of time, PHPPEID or something like that (that's not the exact name), but clearing it and restarting the browser doesn't fix the problem. (They're also gone for the alt account I created at Ray's behest to test this.)

Ah, actually I was on my spare laptop when I had the fap buttons back, come to think of it. They're still out on my main laptop with the configuration reported above. I guess that's a clue there.

[member=2342]Conroy Johanns[/member] That's your session ID, not your cookie. The cookie will say "SMFCookie8". If the last number is 6 or 7 then it's an old cookie that needs to be deleted. In Chrome you should be able to click or right-click on the bit of the address bar to left of the address and get the Cookies used by this site (mine has 8 of them incl the session ID).

Okay, I went further down and there are further cookies in a separate... batch for some reason. One of them says "SMFCookie8."

This means there are cookies I've been missing during the clear-cookies-and-reboot exercise, so I will try it again.

I'm doing all those steps. I think it's not going to work.

It could be that some element of how I have my browser or add-ons configured on this system is interfering in a way that will be more work to track down than it's worth. Seeing as how this is still working on a different device, the problem is more likely at my end than yours, although I'm still mystified as to what it could be.

I think I'll just live with it for now and try to remind people that I am their creepy RapeCage uncle who is Always And Forever Fapping to Them unless noted otherwise. ;)

Post by: Addie on February 03, 2018, 08:50:32 PM
I figured out why the chat list was disappearing. We had a bad link (and may still have others) that forces the site into

Code: [Select]
https:// (secure) mode
instead of plain old http:// .

In https:// mode the site rejects active mixed content like the small line of javascript up top that makes the Chat List from Blab display.

If anyone finds the list disappearing, erase the s from the link and that bit of javascript should work again. I will have to do some work on the site to find any other bad links. Feel free to tell me here if you guys spot any.

Two teeeny buggies:

At the very bottom of a forum thread page, the admin profile links are broken. They have /forum/forum in there. Probably just need a slash at the beginning of the url, like href="/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5"
This one isn't new but I kept forgetting to bring it up!

@Addie (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1) It's a non-critical issue but would be nice to fix. Thank you! :*

@Ingenue (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6) I hard-coded them in so they're not dynamic. Are they working correctly now?

@Addie (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1) I don't think I've ever seen our error log so clean. :yay: Thanks so much for all this. Cheque's in the mail. :uhoh: :*:*:*

Issues I see:
1. fyi the Tags page had some text up top that you'd customised and that's gone now. If you want it back you'll need to edit it.
2. Didn't SMF create a mobile template that loads upon detection of mobile devices? Will it be a bear to edit for that?

FYI - I went to post a pic of me in my pictures on my profile page, but it said I have too many and can't post any more. BUT when I deleted one so I could add this other one, it still said "An Error Has Occurred! You have exceeded allowed number of profile pictures."

I thought that when I was away for a bit you guys had changed the format and gotten rid of a bunch of the picture boards. The only member board I see on the main page is Ingenue's Pet Palace. But just now I saw by clicking the who's online that other boards like the Savage Abattoir still exist, and I can click on them if someone else is looking at them, but I don't see them anywhere on the main site. Am I blind or has something gone tits up?

Edit: Never mind. Somehow I had those boards ignored. Which makes zero sense to me, because I've always loved those boards. So that's the bug, but no hurry.

Does any one else's RC look like this??? It started happening to me and RR both yesterday but other websites were sort of messed up, too. But now it's just RC that does this.

@darkfantasygirl (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2479) What browser, OS, and device are you using? And what theme (skin) are you using here? Is the problem persisting?

@RayPistonprowl (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5)   Google chrome, whatever is most recent with windows so I guess that's 10, and it's just the normal skin. I was looking at that this morning, actually, and changing it didn't do anything so I just changed it back

Mine looks correct and I'm on Win10 Chrome laptop. I need to be able to reproduce to see if it's something we control or if the host was perhaps updating something on the server that temporarily bolloxed our code. :-? :headwall:

yes. it is definitely still persisting. @RayPistonprowl (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5)

I am on a laptop. also, I have a couple users ignored and it still shows me those posts, along with "You are ignoring this user". everything is all wonky over here.

@darkfantasygirl (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2479) I just had a look at all the themes to see if something here is cocking up and I'm still not able to reproduce it. :-? This sounds like a corrupted cookie to me. Can you try clearing all cookies for this site in your browser and restart your browser? You may need to do a hard refresh of the content.

Hard Refresh
On Mac:
Hold ⇧ Shift and click the Reload button.
Or, hold down ⌘ Cmd and ⇧ Shift key and then press R.

On PC:
Hold down Ctrl and click the Reload button.
Or, Hold down Ctrl and press F5.

Let me know if this helps? :/

Title: Re: Temp Bans break Chat Room Access
Post by: RayPistonprowl on July 04, 2018, 01:06:20 AM
@Addie (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1) @Red Right Hand (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=708) @Ingenue (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6) So I worked out that the chat room integration gets broken when someone is banned even temporarily, even once the ban is removed. If you ban someone, you need to go back into the Bans section and remove the record of their ban altogether ( only Addie and I can do this, I think - it's at Admin > Members > Ban List > Browse Ban Triggers > click Username to sort and find their name, then tick the box and 'Remove Ban Trigger' ) and that will restore their chat room access. I worked this out after someone I temporarily banned became unable to enter chat even after their ban ended, and I recall MamaMeadow was temp-banned a long time ago so I put two and two together. So that's the fix.

Ah, okay. Perhaps useful if we keep ban records elsewhere, then.

Not sure if this is a glitch or what, but I turned on the RC anon theme and noticed that I no longer have the NEW button on threads with new replies. There is a link with a broken image error. If it helps, I'm using my phone (an LG K7 with android version 5.1.1) and here is what I see:

Out of the goodness of my heart I am attempting to post some hardcore smut and clicking REPLY in the PICS THAT TURN ME ON THREAD gets me a similar warning to the the red 'deceptive site ahead' ones above. This one is called cum ception without the space dot com. I laughed.

It is thwarting my efforts to spread the smut.

This is an outrage.

@cosmicwitch (http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1845) Some arsehat is exploiting deep links, or their site got infected. I need to know which page of "Pics That Turn You On" is causing the warning to pop up? Shortcut to thread itself for you: http://www.rapecage.com/forum/index.php/topic,141.0.html
Then I can pinpoint which picture to remove so the warning stops. Thanks for alerting me.
